Joining us at today's club meeting was David Bobanick, Executive Director of Rotary First Harvest. David talked about how the concept of taking surplus crops from farmers started - rather than letting it go to waste, one Rotarian had the idea of getting those crops and putting it into the food bank system. Rotary First Harvest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a Rotary District 5030 program. It has many programs reaching out to large and small farmers throughout Washington. And, shortly, it will reach the 200 million pound mark - 200 million pounds of food that could have gone to waste but instead, was used in our region's food banks. It all started with one Rotarian with an idea.
