In the month of October, the Rotary Club of Mill Creek has been holding a series of "mini" auctions to raise funds for Rotary First Harvest.

Our goal was 30,000 pounds of food and Bob Collard, Rotary Club of Mill Creek's representative for Rotary First Harvest was proud to report that we not only met our goal but we succeeded our goal by 10% - or another 1 1/2 tons of food.

The need is great.  There has been a 37% increase in hungry in Washington State from last year.

According to the Hungry in Washington 2010 report released by the Children’s Alliance, the recent economic downturn has had a devastating effect on the lives of many families and individuals in poverty.

The sudden loss of a job, unforeseen medical problems and other problems can quickly erode a seemingly stable situation.   Tragically, people who had been playing by the rules, working full time and raising their families can suddenly find themselves reeling.

Bob Collard is setting up a spring food bank work party, and will keep us posted when the date has been set.
